Is there a right way to be a Medical Student?

Confused, dazed, hazed, pray….

We say we want to stay late

How much can we tolerate?

She said she hadn’t slept in days and her back aches

Pains for days.

What day is it today?

The journey they say is long and hard “ it’s a marathon not a race”, but what If I get stuck in the mud along the way. 

Would I be able to find another way? 

We are grown to be healers, the seekers of a diagnosis and a cure.

We are taught to endure.

Stickers of GRIND and memes of blood flowing from a stick figure’s eyes  

Why does everyone have so much pride

Sometimes, I don’t want to be on this ride..

Or so called “journey”, isn’t life enough?

I’m too weak to be tough.  

The therapist’s hymn and tune is to hear the whines of us, it’s the antidepressants you need to give a try,

Then see if you cry.

Rest is my solace, and in the garden of stillness that I chose,

I peer afar from the churning factory of worth that they said I wasn’t worthy of.

Honestly, what is there to be afraid of?

Life is the journey, not medicine. Medicine is the means to live

So give yourself space to forgive

Take a deep breath, expanded chest, its time to rest.

You did your best.
