Its hard to free your mind, when they told you

You are deaf, dumb, and blind.

They said you were led by the strong armed men

And the direction you face

Is because that was your place.

You band together, hoping to find warmth in your mother or a girl you found along the way.

"Stay by my side " you say.

But they turn away.

They want to find worth in the ones who made this place the way it is.

Writing our books and interpreting our divine messages.

To say we have only one face. One voice. And to be obedient.

We wait for them to marry.

For them to carry their child.

And turn away and despise our own daughters.

She laughs in my face

Saying what a "disgrace".

Sit up straight.

Hold the fork right on your plate.

Speak straight but not too loud.

Don't be proud.

So she finally embraces the shame.

The true disgrace is we turned on eachother.

We put our sisters last.

We forget our past.

We are the women of the future.

It's time to put you first.

We lift our daughters and hope she is brighter than us .

We call our friends from atop a mountain, loud with fury. Cheering them through life's victories.

She embodies the ugly, the hairy, the wild child that was improper and says no...how about YOU suffer.

She says no and blows out the quiet.

She is a wave pulled by the ancient moon.

And her anger is no longer unwelcome. It's welcomed by us women who accept eachother.

WE are here for one another.

And I am the disappointment of the generation.

So it's time to generate the new face of disgrace

And I embrace it.
